Creative Storage for Kids: Small Bedroom

My daughter’s bedroom is not very big, so once we converted the crib into a double bed there was even less space. Now, a two-year-old may not need a lot of space to sleep in but she does accumulate a lot of things in her room which means we need storage.

Of course we have the standard storage any typical bedroom would have – closet, dresser and night table – but recently I was in search of storage solutions for her room that I could organize her books and stuffed animals. Oh, the stuffed animals! My daughter loves them so! Her collection of cuddly toys is growing and she keeps all of her favourite ones in her room. Up until recently all of these animals were piled either on top of her dresser or her bed. So, I started searching online for creative storage solutions.

Having limited space meant finding something small but effective. The first thing that caught my eye was these wooden spice racks (above picture). They are the perfect size for putting her smaller books and stuffed animals, and by hanging them on the wall beside her bed it gives her easy access to her favourite bedtime stories or stuffed toy to snuggle with to sleep.

While the spice rack shelves were a great solution, I needed something extra to put her bigger books and slightly bigger dolls and stuffed animals. When I came across this doll house shelf at Ikea I couldn’t resist bringing it home for my daughter’s room! It’s the perfect sized shelf for the small wall we hung it on and it’s simply adorable! Not to mention, it was a big hit with my little girl!

I have to say there were many ideas that I came across that are perfect for organizing a smaller kid’s room. These over the door shoe organizers are great for storing toys, and could certainly help with clutter.

I also thought this DIY corner shelving reading area would have been great if we had the right wall space to do this in my daughter’s room.

This bedside organizer is another way to keep favourite bedtime stories and snuggly pals close and easy for a child to reach.

So if you’re looking to organize your child’s small bedroom, get creative! There are many possibilities out there to help keep your kid’s room tidy, functional and fun!
